CERULEAN

SHE/they

Cerulean (she/they) is a Naarm-based drag artist and entertainer. She was crowned Miss First Nation: Supreme Queen 2023 at Sydney World Pride, representing the Meriamand Erub Kebi Le people of the Torres Strait Islands. With a bubbly quirky personality and energetic stage presence, she lights up a room bringing joy and excitement to the room.

To Cerulean, Drag is a vessel to explore and share Blak joy - the type of joy one feels amongst a community that understands each other on a foundational level that transcends unfamiliarity with each other. She’s able to share the love and joy of First Nations folk, switching the villainizing narrative the wider country tells.

After a life in a conservative city and family, moving to Naarm was where she lit up and met like-minded people and was able to experiment with queerness, sexuality and gender.

Her drag journey has been an interesting one as it did feel like FN and POC tokenism at first and she wasn’t sure whether people respected her craft and journey or were . She says “Sometimes you may feel like you’re the only POC in the room and feeling like you need to validate your existence, it can be very taxing.” She’s gotten to a point in her career where she has a strong sense of belief in herself and her presence. Cerulean likes to think of herself as a pioneer in hopes to make all spaces open and accessible; being the person in a room that makes someone feel a little more comfortable being in.
